In my earlier years...

I left school when I was 16 years old having completed my GCSEs and was lucky enough to find work at the local airport – the continuation of a Saturday job I’d had for some time. This proved to be a great opportunity and the world of travel opened up for me from there. Travel and a sense of adventure is still with me today.

How I got here…

Having worked for many airlines and companies supporting airlines, I was exposed to IT from the very first day that I started work after leaving school. I have always had an interest in IT, but it was in 2000 that I joined SITA in an application and support role. This was my first venture into IT Support. I quickly became accustomed to the tasks that I was asked to perform. As part of the role, I was required to travel to customer sites across the globe, including the USA, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent, so it was a very enjoyable role with a range of great experiences.

Latterly, I worked for Thomas Cook in their IT service management team, supporting airlines and staff in resorts on a 24/7 basis to ensure that they could operate flights with the minimum of disruption. The role also required me to be on standby 24/7 for any major incidents (P1/P2s) to support major incident managers and handle any escalations. BMC Remedy was the tool used both for service management and to produce reports for senior management.

Why I like my job…

I enjoy my job because I have a can-do attitude and I like helping people to get things fixed. Every day is different, which is really satisfying. I relish learning about new topics and getting involved in new projects. Communication is key and that is why I like to have a conversation with key people to understand new technologies or to build up knowledge and make lasting business relationships.

We have a team of very friendly IT professionals who possess all the skills to support our customers. We have regular meetings and social events hosted by our directors, which are always welcomed and very well received by the team.
